Recently, the first batch of high-precision greenhouse gas observation stations of the China Meteorological Administration were officially put into operation through business operation access.
The first batch of high-precision greenhouse gas observation stations includes 10 stations in Shanxi, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Guangdong provinces, involving national basic meteorological stations, national reference climate stations, and national applied meteorological observation stations (environment), all of which meet the observation system composition and performance requirements of high-precision greenhouse gas observation stations. The business access work lasted for nearly a year and was the subject of extensive research and expert demonstration.
According to Lou Mengyun, senior engineer of the Atmospheric Composition Office of the Meteorological Exploration Center of the China Meteorological Administration, compared with the previous greenhouse gas observation stations, the first batch of stations to be allowed to operate have high technical standards, directly benchmarking the World Meteorological Organization's Global Atmosphere Observation Program and the European Integrated Carbon Monitoring System and other greenhouse gas monitoring indicators. The business operation and quality requirements are high, and the quality assurance of the observation process is benchmarked against the national atmospheric background station. The observation system and instruments have high precision, which can realize accurate and precise measurement of greenhouse gas concentration, as well as sensitive monitoring of changes in ultra-low greenhouse gas concentration. Through strict control, only 1/4 of the first batch of application service operation access stations passed the evaluation. The official operation of the first batch of high-precision greenhouse gas observation stations will further enhance China's climate change monitoring and assessment capabilities, and continue to provide data support for the scientific evaluation of the effectiveness of China's carbon peak and carbon neutrality actions and carbon emission accounting.
In 2021, the China Meteorological Administration established a national greenhouse gas and carbon neutrality monitoring and evaluation center, built an evaluation system for the effectiveness of China's carbon neutrality actions, and released China's first national greenhouse gas observation network directory.
