Funeng Technology Co., Ltd. (688567. SH) will start mass production of sodium-ion batteries.
On the evening of February 28, Funeng Technology announced that the company had received a fixed-point letter from Jiangling Group's EV3 model battery, and would purchase sodium-ion battery pack assemblies from Funeng Technology, and required the company to start mass production of batteries in the first half of the year.
Funeng Technology said that sodium-ion batteries are a new product route, and the company has transformed part of the ternary battery production capacity of the Ganzhou factory into sodium-ion battery production capacity, which has the conditions for mass production. Funeng Technology responded to Jiemian News that after receiving the fixed-point letter from Jiangling Group, it has fed back the detailed development plan and capacity planning according to customer requirements, and the specific procurement scale needs to be subject to the commercial supply agreement.
In December last year, Funeng Technology received a notice from Jiangling Group that it agreed to carry out pre-research on the adaptability of sodium-ion batteries for EV3 models, and EV3 models using sodium-ion batteries will be put on sale this year. In 2019, the Jiangling Group launched the EV3 electric model, which has a range of 302 kilometers with a lithium-ion battery.
Sodium-ion batteries refer to batteries that use sodium salts as electrode materials. Compared with lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries have the advantages of abundant resource reserves, low cost and fast charging, but they lag behind lithium batteries in terms of energy density. The downstream application scenarios of both cover electric vehicles and energy storage.
Funeng Technology said in an institutional survey that at present, large-scale energy storage customers are relatively conservative, biased towards lithium iron phosphate batteries, and small storage customers are very interested in sodium-ion batteries due to price advantages, and the company is actively docking with various energy storage customers.
Zhenhua New Materials(688707. SH) predicted in February this year that sodium-ion batteries will account for more than half of the power and energy storage market in the future, and the remaining market share will be composed of ternary materials and lithium iron phosphate. The company is building an annual production capacity of 12,000 tons of cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries, and has achieved small-batch sales.
Funeng TechnologyThe main ternary soft-pack power battery. According to different packaging forms, lithium-ion batteries are divided into cylindrical batteries, prismatic batteries and pouch batteries. In the domestic power battery market, prismatic batteries are the absolute mainstream.
In December last year,Zhongke Haina官宣联手三峡能源(600905.SH)等公司,在安徽阜阳建设1 GWh的钠离子电池规模化量产线,已正式投产。
Zhongke Haina上周发布消息称,将为隶属于江淮汽车的思皓新能源提供钠离子电池。搭载Zhongke Haina钠离子电池的思皓花仙子电动车试验车当天对外亮相,其续航里程为252公里。
Including CATL (300750. SZ), EVE (300014. SZ) and other lithium battery leaders have released their sodium-ion battery products to enter this new track of battery technology.
CATL released the first generation of sodium-ion batteries in 2021 and plans to industrialize sodium-ion batteries this year. Huang Qisen, vice president of CATL Research Institute, publicly stated last year that in terms of passenger car applications, sodium-ion batteries can meet the needs of models with a range of less than 400 kilometers. He revealed that CATL has realized the mixing and matching of sodium and lithium through AB battery system integration technology, so that the application of sodium-ion batteries is expected to be extended to 500 km range models. This endurance model will be targeted at 65% of the market, and the application prospect is very broad.
In December last year,EVE Energy(300014. SZ) has also released its first-generation sodium-ion battery. The product is in cylindrical form and is currently preparing to enter the pilot process.
