Sinochem New Network News On September 6, Covestro and Ideal Automobile, a new energy automobile company of China, reached a memorandum of understanding at Covestro's Shanghai Integration Base. The two parties will jointly build a joint innovation platform to develop cutting-edge material technologies and applications for the future, and at the same time strive to improve the recycling rate of materials in the automotive value chain and reduce carbon emissions.
The joint innovation platform will focus on developing more sustainable engineering plastics that use alternative raw materials such as biological waste and recycled materials, and promote their use in automotive parts. For example, the two sides will explore the use of engineering plastics containing a share of recycled biomass raw materials in components such as automotive lighting, functional interior and exterior finishes, and smart system components, which are produced by Covestro based on a mass balance method. The two parties will also work with value chain partners to explore innovative processes and business models for using recycled headlight materials in new car parts. In addition, the two sides will deepen cooperation in the fields of lighting, smart systems and thermal management solutions, developing high-performance optical grade materials, smart surface technology, new in-mold structural electronic processes and thermal conduction solutions.
Guido Naberfeld, senior vice president of global sales and marketing for the automotive business of Covestro's Engineered Plastics Division, said: "By combining Covestro's expertise in engineering plastics and recycling solutions with the pioneering technologies of ideal cars in the fields of intelligence and electrification, the two sides will Together move the automotive industry significantly towards a more sustainable future."
