Cainiao releases annual ESG report: annual carbon emission reduction of 458,000 tons

Recently, Cainiao released the "Environmental, Social and Governance Report for Fiscal Year 2024"(referred to as the "ESG Report"). The ESG report shows that in fiscal year 2024, Cainiao's own operations and value chain achieved emission reductions of 458,000 tons. Cainiao will continue to solidly advance the ESG process in areas such as green logistics, emergency logistics, user experience, community services, and high-quality employment to provide customers around the world with a convenient and smooth e-commerce logistics experience, while continuing to reduce the net carbon emissions of its own operations and the carbon intensity of the value chain.

It is understood that Cainiao has built a full-link green logistics solution from order generation to package delivery, covering all upstream and downstream aspects such as order, warehousing, packaging, transportation and recycling. In fiscal year 2024, Cainiao's own operations and value chain will achieve emission reductions of 458,000 tons.Among them, Cainiao uses 54.1% of clean electricity within its operational control range; in the transportation link, the proportion of new energy vehicles in urban distribution by Cainiao Express self-operated fleet reaches 99%; in the packaging link, Cainiao delivers goods through original boxes. Green packaging solutions such as packaging algorithms, packaging reductions, electronic packaging slips, and electronic sheets have brought about 156,000 tons of carbon emission reduction; In the recycling process, Cainiao Station annually recycles and uses old cardboard boxes to reduce carbon emissions by more than 21,000 tons, and has expanded the green recycling category.

Cainiao's leading digital technology capabilities play a key role in reducing carbon emissions in its own value chain. By allowing each package and commodity to have a digital ID, packaging material selection, recycling and recycling become a reality. Through its self-developed carbon asset management system and green logistics operations, Cainiao is also driving upstream and downstream supply chain and partners in various industries to coordinate carbon reduction.

In addition to green development, rookie employees also actively undertake other social responsibilities. In fiscal year 2024, the total volunteer hours of rookie employees exceeded 28,000 hours throughout the year.
