Sinochem News Recently, a research report released by US financial giant Morgan Stanley stated that by 2030, the rapid increase of data centers will generate approximately 2.5 billion tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions globally, while decarbonization investment will also accelerate.
Morgan Stanley said that with the expansion of artificial intelligence and cloud computing technology, large cloud operators such as Google, Microsoft, and Amazon are adding data centers that consume large amounts of electricity. At the same time, these companies have all committed to significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions in their data centers by 2030. The report said this situation has created a huge market for decarbonization solutions. According to calculations, greenhouse gas emissions from the global data center industry are equivalent to about 40% of the total annual emissions in the United States.
The report pointed out that the construction of large data centers will increase investment in clean power development, energy-saving equipment and green building materials. In addition, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology and carbon dioxide removal (CDR) processes are also expected to be developed.
