In his spare time, Mr. Li, a sea fishing enthusiast on Baisha Island in Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province, will go out to sea with friends. This sea area at his doorstep will give him something every time. "In recent years, through the construction of marine pastures, artificial fish reefs have been put into batches, which has greatly helped restore the marine ecology and the fish population has become richer." Mr. Li said.

The Baisha National Marine Ranch Demonstration Zone project was launched in 2020, with a total investment of 19.5 million yuan and covering a sea area of 200 hectares. During the construction of the project, the construction party has put in a total of 102 hexagonal frame steel structure multi-functional reefs, with a total of 6630 empty squares; and 4203 four-hole steel-concrete multi-functional reefs, with a total of 33624 empty squares. The total area of the artificial reef area reaches 2.57 hectares. Marine pastures can play a radiating and driving role in fields such as fishery resource protection, ecological environment improvement, and cultural tourism industry development.

This is also a microcosm of the development of Baisha Island's "blue carbon economy". In recent years, Baisha Island has taken "green beauty" and "sharing between guests and guests" as its development concepts, constantly exploring new paths to reduce emissions and increase sinks, and transform marine advantages, striving to become a model for green development. Today, in Baisha Island, green and low-carbon have been reflected in all aspects of industrial development and social life.

The northern roundabout road on the island is more than 3000 meters long. Tourists and residents can choose to walk or ride to enjoy the scenery of the mountains and seas leisurely. In order to promote environmentally friendly sightseeing methods, the island provides electric sightseeing vehicle services, which not only meets tourists 'needs for easy sightseeing, but also effectively reduces carbon emissions and protects the island's fresh air. This low-carbon sightseeing method has become a highlight in attracting tourists.

Anoectochilus chinensis, three-leaf green, Polygonatum... Nearly 4500 square meters of Chinese herbal flowers have also been planted along the northern Huandao Road. The colorful sea of flowers and forests complement the blue sea and blue sky, bringing visual enjoyment to tourists and adding vitality to the island's ecological environment. "It's amazing! I didn't expect the herbs originally described in the book to appear next to this coastal road." Tourist Ms. Wang walked along the roundabout road with her children and repeatedly praised the beautiful scenery in front of her.

The vegetation coverage rate is as high as more than 80%, and there is no industrial pollution or the noise of motor vehicles. It is replaced by fresh air, blue sea water and rich marine ecological resources. Walking on the island, the practice of "blue carbon" goes far beyond that.

Mass fishing grounds and recreational diving projects allow tourists to enjoy the fun of ocean sports while experiencing the charm of ecological protection; the sea fishing tourism service center, Yuxiuli style alley and century-old lighthouse are the perfect integration of culture and nature; the island wedding base provides tourists with a diverse offshore sports experience.

In order to create a more livable and tourism-friendly island environment, Baisha Island has also implemented comprehensive improvement actions of island style. The "Yujian Baisha" project has completely renovated the facade of the farmhouse, dotted with beautiful courtyards and "pocket parks". The Clean Bay Action has elevated the island environment to a new level. In addition, the island encourages the promotion of the use of clean energy, comprehensively universalizes the domestic waste classification system, and carries out the resource treatment of island domestic waste. It also guides the general public to actively participate in the ocean by increasing publicity, organizing volunteer service activities, and carrying out special publicity. Protect and create a good atmosphere of energy conservation and low-carbon to achieve negative growth in carbon emissions.

In the next step, in response to the further development of the "blue carbon economy", Baisha Island will gather elements such as science and technology, industry, and talents to accelerate the deep integration of ecology and industry, and promote innovative development in marine new energy, marine ecological service industry and other fields. Through the implementation of a series of measures such as the ocean exchange increase action, the introduction and renewal of island industries, the improvement of island infrastructure, and island digital integration, a complete blue carbon economic system has been gradually built, striving to achieve a significant contribution of the "blue carbon economy" by the end of 2025. Improvement and continuous optimization of the marine ecological environment.
