In Cangnan County, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, there is an area whose net greenhouse gas emissions are actually negative. This is Yanpu Bay.

Recently, Cangnan Yanpu Bay has been certified as the authoritative greenhouse gas verification certification by China Quality Certification Center (CQC), becoming the country's first greenhouse gas independently carbon-negative bay area.

What is autonomous carbon and CO negative₂e？Xiao Xujin, chief of the Marine Ecology Section of Cangnan Branch of the Wenzhou City Ecological Environment Bureau, explained that autonomous carbon negative means that regions rely on their own emission reduction and sink increase measures without purchasing carbon sink emission reductions, renewable energy green certificates or other carbon credits., achieve a state in which net greenhouse gas emissions are negative. CO₂e stands for "carbon dioxide equivalent", a term used to describe all other greenhouse gases in common units.

According to this certification, CO is used as a common unit to measure the overall greenhouse effect.₂Measured by e, a total of 49925 tons of CO will be emitted in the Yanpu Bay area in 2021₂e (Carbon emissions per capita are about 2.05 tons of CO₂e), while the forest carbon sink is 29555 tons of CO₂e, mangrove carbon sink is 719 tons of CO₂e. Emission reduction from renewable energy power generation is 27698 tons of CO₂e。Taking into account all greenhouse gas emission factors comprehensively, the net greenhouse gas emissions of Yanpu Bay have reached autonomous carbon negative, at-8047 tons of CO₂e。

According to the recent comprehensive price situation in the national carbon market, the average transaction price in the national carbon market is about 100 yuan/ton. The 8047 tons of independent carbon burden are expected to bring economic benefits of at least 800,000 yuan per year. While alleviating greenhouse gas emissions and promoting green and low-carbon development, it also plays an important role in promoting the healthy development of the regional green economy and achieving social benefits, A win-win situation for ecological benefits and economic benefits.

According to reports, Yanpu Bay's specific approach to effectively reducing carbon emissions is to make full use of the Bay Area's inherent blue carbon resources, vigorously develop clean energy projects, and explore the construction of hydrogen energy, photovoltaic, nuclear power and offshore wind power projects. The Yanpu Bay region has also cooperated with scientific research institutions such as the Zhuhai Institute of Science and Technology of Macau University and Jinan University to jointly carry out research on the construction of the "Carbon Negative Bay", greenhouse gas accounting, and achievement certification, and prepare and implement the "Yanpu Bay Carbon Negative Bay Construction Plan".

At the same time, thanks to the national "double carbon" strategy, Cangnan County has also taken eco-tourism, green and low-carbon, and clean energy as entry points, attracted a number of central enterprises such as China Guangdong Nuclear Power, China Nuclear Power, China Resources, Huaneng, etc. to settle in, and launched a number of clean energy projects, including the 100 billion-level Sanao Nuclear Power Plant, offshore wind power projects and a long-term zero-carbon industrial base, injecting strong impetus into regional green development.
