Recently, the first offshore carbon dioxide recycling project in South China was put into operation at Gaolan Terminal, Asia's largest natural gas land-based processing terminal in Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province. This project is one of the key practical projects of "Beautiful China" in Zhuhai and is built by CNOOC Deep Sea Development Co., Ltd. The project has built a carbon dioxide production plant with an annual production capacity of 200,000 tons. By recycling carbon dioxide from natural gas produced by 7 gas fields in the Baiyun Gas Field Group 240 to 260 kilometers offshore, it is manufactured into liquid carbon dioxide products, achieving a double harvest of reducing carbon emissions and improving economic benefits.

Reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 200,000 tons per year

"In recent years, we have firmly established the concept of green development, vigorously implemented green development leapfrog projects, and used low-carbon transformation and green development to help my country fully achieve the goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality." Zhang Wu, director of Gaolan Terminal of Baiyun Natural Gas Operation Company of CNOOC Deep Sea Development Co., Ltd., told reporters that in this context, CNOOC's first carbon dioxide recycling project based on the construction of production facilities was implemented in Zhuhai.

The reporter learned that carbon dioxide is associated during the extraction of offshore natural gas. In the traditional production process, this carbon dioxide is removed through decarbonization facilities and released into the atmosphere. Against the background of the country's "double carbon", CNOOC Deep Sea Development Co., Ltd. independently designed and developed a complete set of carbon dioxide recycling and utilization production equipment based on the original decarbonization equipment of the natural gas processing terminal through R & D and design, and further improved my country's offshore carbon dioxide recycling equipment technical system.

This project has built a carbon dioxide production plant with an annual production capacity of 200,000 tons. It uses physical processes to process carbon dioxide and builds a new production unit, 2 storage spherical tanks and a set of vehicle export units. The carbon dioxide associated with offshore natural gas development goes through processes such as impurity removal, purification, and pressurization, and finally turns into liquid carbon dioxide at-19℃ and 2.1MPa. These carbon dioxide products will be exported through tank trucks and sold to other user factories for industrial production or further processed into fire extinguishers, refrigerants, dry ice and other products.

"The project relies on the original equipment, and we have reserved production land, which is very obvious to reduce costs, improve quality, and increase efficiency." Zhang Wu said that the project team conducted many field surveys, special studies, process comparison and selection in the early stage, and fully Relying on the original equipment and process system for design, the amount of renovation projects has been greatly reduced and key equipment has been localized. "According to national standards, the purity of food-grade carbon dioxide must reach more than 99.9%. Through a complete operation and maintenance management system and gradual and in-depth debugging, the purity of carbon dioxide products produced by Gaolan terminal exceeds 99.98%, meeting international standards."

Deeply explore the potential of energy conservation and carbon reduction

"This project is also a new attempt at carbon dioxide recycling." Zhang Wu told reporters that although the carbon dioxide recycling technology is very mature, the gas source composition is different, and the entire recycling equipment is different."Our natural gas is high in humidity, high in sulfur, and high in hydrocarbons. The composition of the entire project package, parameters, technology, etc. must all change accordingly. This is also a technical improvement to the carbon dioxide recycling system."

Considering that new projects will increase energy consumption, the project was designed in accordance with the principles of green environmental protection, energy conservation, emission reduction, and efficient operation, and carried out a series of optimizations. For example, the device adopts multi-stage heat exchange and multi-stage recovery to maximize the heat of the purified gas at the outlet of the dehydrocarbon tower, and only needs to replenish the heat slightly to ensure the normal operation of the device. The carbon dioxide compressor is changed to a variable frequency motor drive to reduce power loss and reduce carbon emissions. The newly built circulating water system adopts energy-saving cooling towers, which can save 330,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity every year, which can save 40% water compared with traditional electromechanical cooling towers.

In recent years, CNOOC Deep Sea Development Co., Ltd. has actively served the national key strategies of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and continued to build a green energy production base with modern management. The annual natural gas output has remained above 6 billion cubic meters every year, and the cumulative supply of natural gas has exceeded 68 billion cubic meters., accounting for 1/5 of Guangdong Province's total natural gas consumption over the years. Low-carbon, safe and efficient clean energy has benefited more than 100 companies and more than 80 million people in 10 cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Different from the beautiful construction in other regions, Zhuhai City has broken through the conventional approach of using framework planning to promote the implementation of indicators, fully mobilizing the enthusiasm of the competent departments of various industries, and has sorted out multiple "14th Five-Year Plan" plans to plan and collect a batch of projects in various fields."Making up for shortcomings","benefiting the long term" and benefiting people's livelihood, in October 2022, Guangdong Province launched a five-year implementation plan for the first beautiful China local practical project, establishing seven implementation paths, including beautiful forests and beautiful rivers and lakes. Improve the ability and level of ecological and environmental management in ten aspects including solid waste disposal, sewage treatment facilities, and forestry greening, and strive to create a Chinese-style modern Zhuhai example of harmonious coexistence between man and nature. The number of projects put into storage in the first phase reached 183, with a total planned investment of 51.973 billion yuan.

After more than two years of practical exploration, as of July this year, a number of environmental infrastructure projects have been completed, with a cumulative investment of approximately 20.383 billion yuan. The "Beautiful China" practice in Zhuhai became the only positive typical case in Guangdong Province selected as one of the 12 "Promoting the Implementation of Major Ecological and Environmental Projects" nationwide in September last year.

"Beautiful China" Zhuhai implements the construction of a series of key projects to better support and serve Zhuhai's high-quality development. Seven industrial sewage treatment plants including the Jinwan Biomedical Park Industrial Water Quality Purification Plant and related supporting industrial sewage pipe networks have been built. The city's industrial sewage treatment scale has been increased to 203,000 tons per day; 5 industrial solid waste treatment projects have been built, adding new industrial solid waste The treatment capacity is 636,000 tons per year, and the hazardous waste treatment capacity meets the current treatment needs of most industrial hazardous waste types in Zhuhai; Zhuhai has achieved comprehensive compliance with six atmospheric pollutants in the city for many consecutive years, and the nitrogen dioxide index has reached the best in nearly 10 years. PM2.5、PM10All other indicators lead the province and are significantly better than the national average.
