2024 The 3rd Influential International Climate Innovation Conference was held in Haikou
On October 23, the 2024 Third Impact International Climate Innovation Conference grandly opened in Haikou. With the theme of "Accelerating Partnership for a Zero Carbon Future", the conference gathered more than 400 influential representatives and professional visitors from governments, academia, enterprises, investment institutions, media and social organizations to discuss cutting-edge green and low-carbon solutions and innovative technologies, with a view to accelerating the green and low-carbon transformation of the industry and global emission reduction process through innovation and cross-border cooperation, and jointly building a sustainable future.
This conference was supported by the Hainan Province Department of Ecology and Environment, sponsored by Hainan Impact Exhibition and Investment Co., Ltd., and supported by many well-known institutions at home and abroad, including the China South Sea Research Institute, the Institute of Ecological Civilization and Circular Economy of Tongji University, the Jockey Club Global Enterprise Sustainable Development Institute of the University of Hong Kong, and Beijing City Entrepreneurs Environmental Protection Foundation, Avenue Climate Change Promotion Center, Impact Works Shanghai Innovation Center, China European Chamber of Commerce Environmental Working Group, etc. The conference 2022-2024 has been listed as a "Hainan Provincial Exhibition Project" for three consecutive years.
Addressing climate change is an urgent topic and common challenge facing the world. The overall situation of global warming is no longer optimistic. The world needs more ambitious solutions and practical actions. As a climate event held before COP29, the conference responded to relevant calls and set up an opening ceremony, 2 keynote forums, 3 plenary meetings and 12 sub-forums: vehicle-network interaction, circular economy, carbon market, green supply chain, South-South cooperation, biodiversity, ESG, resilient cities, marine pastures, near-zero carbon parks, climate investment and financing, and renewable agriculture.
At the opening ceremony, Mao Dongli, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Department of Ecology and Environment of Hainan Province, delivered a speech, mentioning that Hainan is close to Hong Kong and Macao, radiates to the ASEAN market, and has air and maritime connectivity with countries co-building the "Belt and Road". It is located in the world today. At the "figure-eight" strategic intersection of the most active ultra-large-scale domestic market and the Southeast Asian market, we will focus on building "two bases","two networks" and "two hubs." After the customs closure operation is launched before the end of 2025, Hainan Free Trade Port will serve as an important local regional node for international cooperation on the ecological environment and become an important practice place for addressing climate change and new productive forces.
He Kebin, a professor at the School of Environment at Tsinghua University and director of the Carbon Neutralization Research Institute, pointed out that international supply chain chain owners have incorporated their carbon footprints into the supply chain evaluation system and required suppliers to disclose their carbon footprints, which has put certain pressure on upstream and downstream companies in the supply chain. The internationalization of my country's carbon footprint management system construction can start from three aspects: first, actively participate in the formulation of international rules; second, reflect national conditions in the accounting system while ensuring consistency between the framework level and international standards; third, under the same rules, we should reform the old and innovate, and propose standards that are higher than existing international general rules in terms of transparency and representativeness.

Hainan is accelerating the construction of a free trade port, which will become a new bridge connecting China and the world. The three-day conference will showcase innovative technologies, solutions, financing goals and action plans from China and around the world to decarbonize and address climate change, accelerate the establishment of climate cooperation partnerships, and provide opportunities for China and the Belt and Road Initiative. South-South cooperation provides more opportunities, allows the world to share new opportunities for the development of free trade ports, and injects new impetus into achieving a low-emission, climate-resilient future.
