The world's first commercial carbon fiber subway train made in China was officially launched

On June 26, the world's first carbon fiber subway train for commercial operation "CETROVO 1.0 Carbon Star Express Track" was officially released in Qingdao, Shandong. The train was developed by CRRC Sifang Co., Ltd. and Qingdao Metro Group for Qingdao Metro Line 1. The train weighs 11% less than traditional subway vehicles and has significant advantages such as being lighter and more energy-efficient, leading subway trains to achieve new green upgrades.

Traditional subway vehicles mainly use metal materials such as steel and aluminum alloys, which are limited by material characteristics and face bottlenecks in weight reduction. Carbon fiber is known as the "king of new materials" because of its advantages such as light weight, high strength, fatigue resistance, and corrosion resistance. Its strength is more than 5 times that of steel, but its weight is less than 1/4 of that of steel. It is an excellent material for lightweight rail vehicles.

The car's main load-bearing structures such as body and bogie frame are made of carbon fiber composite materials, achieving a new upgrade of vehicle performance. Compared with subway vehicles made of traditional metal materials, the carbon fiber subway vehicle's body weight is reduced by 25%, the bogie frame is reduced by 50%, the whole vehicle weight is reduced by about 11%, and the operating energy consumption is reduced by 7%. It can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 130 tons, equivalent to 101 acres of afforestation.
