On October 15, Weifang Port of Shandong Port Bohai Bay Port Group won the "Carbon Neutrality Evaluation Certificate" issued by China Classification Society Quality Certification Co., Ltd. At this point, Weifang Port has achieved "carbon neutrality" throughout the territory, marking the completion of the country's first "zero-carbon port" in Weifang City, Shandong Province.
Why did Weifang Port become the first in the country?
Shandong Port Weifang Port is located on the south coast of Bohai Bay, with a coastline length of 5382 meters. It is an important support for the economic and social development of Weifang City and surrounding areas and the development of port-based industries. Li Haibo, director of the Energy Conservation and Low-Carbon Research Office of the Institute of Water Transport Sciences of the Ministry of Transport, said: "Weifang Port is rich in ocean, wind energy, light energy and other resources, and its overall scale and energy consumption are moderate. It is a good test site for building a 'zero-carbon port'."
Thanks to its unique clean energy resources, Weifang Port focuses on the complementarity of energy supply, optimization of energy consumption structure, application of energy efficiency improvement technologies, improvement of automation and intelligence level, adjustment and optimization of transportation structure, synergy and efficiency of pollution reduction and carbon reduction, and ecological carbon sinks. We strive to build a "zero-carbon port" in eight aspects: improving capabilities and improving low-carbon management and control capabilities.
In March this year, Shandong Port Weifang Port released a plan to create a "zero-carbon port", and China Classification Society Quality Certification Co., Ltd. issued a commitment carbon neutrality certificate to Shandong Port Bohai Bay Port Group Weifang Port.
"In the early stage, we evaluated the quantification and offset process of greenhouse gas emissions generated during the production and operation stages of Weifang Port." Wang Ruizhi, general manager of Shandong Company of China Classification Society Quality Certification Co., Ltd., introduced that Weifang Port has completed the neutralization of a total greenhouse gas emission of 9010.62 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.

How to build a "zero-carbon port"?
Ports are an important node in my country's foreign trade, an important window for the construction of ecological civilization, and an important position for achieving the "double carbon" goal. "Weifang Port has taken the lead and built the country's first 'zero-carbon port', which has good guiding significance for other ports across the country to embark on a green and low-carbon path." Li Haibo said.
During the construction of a "zero-carbon port", Weifang Port continued to promote the cleaner energy structure. On September 30, four 6.7MW wind turbines in Weifang Port were successfully connected to the grid, becoming the first onshore decentralized wind power project in Shandong Province to be connected to the grid for power generation. The annual available power generation exceeds 70 million KWh, which can meet the electricity consumption of the entire port area. Redundant electricity can also be used by society through the power grid. It not only saves Weifang Port about 9.6 million yuan in electricity costs every year, but also saves 21,000 tons of standard coal every year, reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 57,000 tons, reduces smoke emissions by 1.5 tons, and reduces other waste gas sulfur dioxide 7.0 tons and nitrogen oxides 10.5 tons.
At the same time, Weifang Port continues to promote the construction of a wind, solar and hydrogen multi-energy complementary system, orderly promotes the construction of photovoltaic power generation systems in logistics warehousing warehouses, stacking warehouses and other areas, and has built and put into operation a 3.3MWp photovoltaic power station, with an annual power generation capacity of 3.6132 million kWh; The hydrogen refueling station has a designed daily hydrogen refueling capacity of 500kg. It is equipped with dual hydrogen unloading columns, dual hydrogen refueling lances, a 9m³ hydrogen storage bottle group and a comprehensive station building. It can store 300kg of compressed hydrogen every day, which can meet the needs of 4 hydrogen fuel cell heavy trucks every day in the port area. We strive to promote the application demonstration of the "Green Hydrogen Production, Transportation, Storage and Application Whole Industrial Chain" project.

In addition, Weifang Port is also making every effort to promote the replacement of port machinery and electricity and create a green corridor for collecting and evacuating ports. Electric equipment is given priority to new and scrapped port machinery, and 46 charging piles have been built in the port to fully meet the rapid charging needs of electric transportation vehicles and mobile machinery such as electric heavy trucks in the port. The annual electricity consumption exceeds 6 million degrees. It also plans to realize full electrification of operations in the port by the end of 2025, increasing wind power consumption by 4 million kWh per year.
At present, Weifang Port's multi-energy supply system has been initially established, forming a "zero-carbon" energy structure with "integration of wind, light and storage", realizing version 2.0 of the "zero-carbon port", and striving to take the lead in the industry in building a "green and low-carbon development of the entire logistics chain". Version 3.0 of the "zero-carbon port".
