The construction of Beilun "green power plant" adds "green kinetic energy" to low-carbon development

On the roof of the factory of Ningbo Baoxin Stainless Steel Co., Ltd., located in Xiapu Street, Beilun District, Ningbo City, tens of thousands of blue photovoltaic panels sparkle in the sun, turning into a small photovoltaic power station.

Recently, the distributed photovoltaic power generation project on the roof of Ningbo Baoxin Phase III plant was successfully connected to the grid for power generation, and the average annual cumulative amount of "green electricity" generated by the enterprise reached 10 million kilowatt hours.

Looking down from a high altitude through the drone lens, the reporter saw dense photovoltaic solar panels covering the roofs of various factories of the enterprise.

"The electricity generated by the distributed project is mainly supplied to the equipment in the plant itself. Cheng Jinshan, an engineer of Ningbo Baoxin Stainless Steel Co., Ltd., told reporters that the construction of distributed photovoltaic projects on the top of the plant can not only provide clean energy for the production and life of the plant, but also add color to the plant, absorb part of the heat, and reduce the temperature in the plant.

"Now, we're able to generate electricity on the roofs of every factory in the company. Since the launch of the first phase of the Ningbo Baoxin plant rooftop distributed photovoltaic power generation project in 2014, the company has used about 140,000 square meters of idle roof area of the plant, which can reduce the total use of standard coal by about 1,230 tons and reduce carbon emissions by about 5,700 tons throughout the year, helping the company reduce costs and increase efficiency and achieve the "double carbon" goal, and help build a green garden factory.

Rational use of idle resources on rooftops is a natural advantage of distributed photovoltaics. For enterprise plants with large energy consumption, the use of idle roofs is equivalent to giving fixed assets a "second life".

In Beilun, a number of enterprises such as Beilun Power Plant, Shenzhou, Xusheng, and Ningbo Baoxin have carried out photovoltaic construction in the plant area, and the rooftop distributed photovoltaic power generation projects of enterprises have developed rapidly.

According to statistics, in 2023, there will be 187 photovoltaic projects in Beilun District, with 232.2 MW of new PV grid-connected capacity, and a cumulative annual power generation capacity of 560 million kWh, equivalent to saving 160,000 tons of standard coal and reducing about 400,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions in a year.
