The fifth China-Singapore Ministerial Dialogue on Climate Change was successfully held

At the invitation of new Zealand Climate Change Minister Woz, Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu led a delegation to visit new Zealand from August 26 to 28, 2024, and jointly held the fifth China-New Zealand Ministerial Dialogue on Climate Change with Woz in Wellington.

This dialogue is a concrete measure to implement the consensus reached by the new leaders meeting in June 2024 to address climate change. The two sides conducted in-depth dialogues and exchanges on a wide range of topics such as their respective domestic climate policies, bilateral practical cooperation, and global climate governance. Huang Runqiu introduced the effectiveness of my country's policies, actions and progress to address climate change, elaborated on its position on participating in multilateral processes such as climate change, biodiversity and plastic pollution, and its proposition on the outcome of the United Nations Baku Conference on Climate Change (COP29), and proposed specific proposals to further deepen China-Singapore bilateral climate policy dialogue and practical cooperation in areas such as carbon emissions trading, green finance, and nature-based solutions. He hoped that New Zealand would create a fair and open market environment. Provide convenient support for Chinese companies to carry out new green and low-carbon businesses. Woz shared the latest climate strategy, work priorities and action progress of the new Zealand government, appreciated China's climate action effectiveness and leadership in multilateral processes, and expressed its willingness to work with China in carbon markets, renewable energy, electric vehicles, green finance, nature-based solutions and other fields. Strengthen policy exchanges and practical cooperation. New Zealand welcomes the further development of China's new energy industry, injecting new impetus into the global low-carbon transformation, and also welcomes Chinese companies to invest and cooperate with New Zealand.

Both sides agreed that we should implement the consensus reached by the leaders of China and New Zealand, work with the international community to jointly address the challenge of climate change, inject confidence and impetus into the multilateral climate process, support Azerbaijan, which chairs COP29, and promote the conference to achieve positive results. The two sides will strengthen policy dialogue and communication and coordination, explore and update bilateral climate cooperation documents, share green and low-carbon transformation and development opportunities brought about by climate change, further enrich the connotation of China-Singapore comprehensive strategic partnership, and contribute to green and low-carbon development for China, New Zealand and the world. Representatives of new Zealand Environment Minister Simmons, Energy Minister Brown, and high-level representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment attended the dialogue.

During his visit to New Zealand, Huang Runqiu and Woz jointly attended the thematic dialogue on climate change and sustainable development held by the Committee for the Promotion of New Zealand-China Relations and delivered a speech, further deepening the understanding of people from all walks of life in New Zealand on my country's policy actions and effectiveness in addressing climate change, and enhancing understanding and mutual trust. Huang Runqiu also met with Auckland Mayor Wayne and Taupo Mayor Trevavas respectively, and held dialogues and exchanges with the new Zealand Geothermal Association, the Institute of Geology and Nuclear Energy Sciences, etc., to discuss low-carbon city construction, adaptation to climate change, water environment protection, geothermal energy development and other issues exchanged views.

Chinese Ambassador to new Zealand Wang Xiaolong and Consul General in Auckland Chen Shijie participated in relevant activities.
