Recently, the world's largest and the world's first 10,000-ton pure electric powered container ship safely berthed at the No. 1 berth of Shengdong Wharf in Yangshan Port, Shanghai, and successfully completed its maiden voyage. This also opens a new chapter of "zero emission, zero pollution and zero noise" in the whole process of river-sea intermodal transportation in Yangshan Port.

This container ship is the "COSCO SHIPPING Green 01" ship, which adopts battery-powered propulsion for the whole voyage, with a total length of 119.8 meters, a width of 23.6 meters, a maximum speed of 19.4 km/h, and a total battery capacity of more than 50,000 kWh, which is the world's first in terms of total length, width, number of containers, deadweight tonnage and battery capacity of electric container ships. According to reports, the "COSCO SHIPPING Green 01" ship can be used for battery swapping and battery life through box-type mobile power supply, breaking through a number of key technologies of "from 0 to 1", and effectively solving the problems of long charging time, low loading capacity and short cruising range of traditional electric container ships.

Thanks to the use of pure electric power, the "COSCO SHIPPING Green 01" has excellent performance in pollution reduction and carbon reduction. It is estimated that the ship can save 3,900 kilograms of fuel per 100 nautical miles, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 12.4 tons, save energy consumption costs of about 33,500 yuan, and is expected to reduce emissions by 2,472 tons of exhaust gas throughout the year, including about 2,362 tons of carbon dioxide.

It is reported that the "COSCO SHIPPING Green 01" ship is independently developed, designed and built by China, and has independent intellectual property rights. In the future, the ship will be fixed between Nanjing and Yangshan Port, which can provide a reference for achieving carbon emission reduction in river-sea intermodal transportation and help the shipping industry achieve China's goal of "carbon peak and carbon neutrality".
