The reporter learned from China Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. that on the morning of April 10, the first DCS (distributed control system) cabinet of the multi-purpose modular small reactor technology demonstration project "Linglong No. 1" in Changjiang, Hainan Province was in place and the installation and commissioning work was started, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent functional tests.

The distributed control system (DCS) of nuclear power plants is known as the "nerve center" of nuclear power plant operation. The "Linglong No. 1" DCS system adopts the dragon scale platform (safety level) and dragon fin platform (non-safety level) with independent intellectual property rights in China. The dragon scale platform can realize the safety control of the reactor under various working conditions to ensure the safe operation of the nuclear power plant, and the dragon fin platform is responsible for the operation and management, which is an important guarantee for the efficient and economical operation of the nuclear power plant, and the two platforms jointly control the operation of hundreds of systems, nearly 10,000 equipment and various working conditions of the nuclear power plant.

It is reported that the first dragon fin platform cabinet in place is a non-safety control system developed by CNNC for nuclear power plants and other large-scale nuclear facilities, the platform inherits and develops the nuclear power I&C experience and key technologies accumulated by CNNC over the years, and integrates the latest advanced technologies such as data acquisition, process control, large-scale networking, fieldbus and information management to meet the requirements of high reliability and high safety of nuclear facilities. The technology of intelligent equipment management, multi-protocol large-scale communication, and integrated monitoring of the whole plant has reached the international advanced level, among which the controller self-diagnosis technology, fieldbus technology, server redundancy switching technology and real-time monitoring module library technology have reached the international leading level.

The Hainan Nuclear Power Multi-purpose Modular Small Reactor Technology Demonstration Project "Linglong No. 1" started construction in Hainan on July 13, 2021. After completion and operation, it is expected to generate 1 billion kWh of electricity per year, which can meet the electricity demand of 526,000 households in Hainan. At the same time, it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 880,000 tons per year, which is equivalent to planting 7.5 million trees a year.
