China's new compressed air energy storage power station was connected to the grid for the first time

The reporter learned from the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences that on April 30, the first 300MW advanced compressed air energy storage power station in Feicheng International, Shandong Province, with completely independent intellectual property rights, was connected to the grid for power generation for the first time and was a one-time success.

The power station adopts the advanced compressed air energy storage technology independently developed by the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and China National Energy Storage (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd. as the investment and construction unit, which is currently the world's largest, most efficient, best performance and lowest cost new compressed air energy storage power station.

The R&D team has broken through a full set of core key technologies of the 300MW compressed air energy storage system, conquered the technology of multi-stage wide-load compressor and multi-stage high-load turboexpander, high-efficiency supercritical heat exchanger technology, optimization design and integrated control technology of the whole working condition of the system, and creatively developed core equipment such as 300MW multi-stage high-load turboexpander, multi-stage wide-load compressor and high-efficiency compact heat storage heat exchanger. The unit cost of the system has decreased by more than 30% compared with 100MW, and the autonomy rate of system equipment has reached 100%, achieving complete autonomy and control.

The construction scale of the power station is 300MW/1800MWh, with a total investment of 1.496 billion yuan and a rated design efficiency of 72.1%. It can achieve continuous discharge for 6 hours, generate about 600 million kWh of electricity annually, provide power guarantee for about 200,000~300,000 households at the peak of electricity consumption, save about 189,000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 490,000 tons per year.

The power station makes use of the abundant underground salt cavern resources in Feicheng City, Shandong Province, and realizes large-scale power energy storage on the grid side through air as the medium, which can provide power regulation and control functions such as peak regulation, frequency regulation, phase modulation, standby, and black start for the power grid, and effectively support the stable and efficient operation of the power system.

The grid-connected power generation of Feicheng 300MW advanced compressed air energy storage project is an important milestone in the field of compressed air energy storage, which can effectively promote the rapid development of compressed air energy storage technology and industry, further consolidate China's international leading position in the field of compressed air energy storage, and lay a solid foundation for the large-scale promotion and application of this technology.
