High-energy-consuming and high-emission projects still exist. How can the petrochemical industry achieve pollution reduction, carbon reduction, and synergy? From May 23 to 25, the Second Petrochemical Green Development Forum and the Annual Meeting of the Petrochemical Special Committee of the China Chemical Industry and Environmental Protection Association held in Quanzhou, Fujian Province proposed that in the immediate future, technological transformation and upgrading must be stepped up to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. Lay the green background for high-quality development; in the long run, to achieve the "double carbon" goal, we must seize development opportunities and develop disruptive technologies to open up new economic growth poles.

Zhou Xianhui, chairman of the China Chemical and Environmental Protection Association, said that my country's petrochemical industry still lags behind the world's leading petrochemical powers in terms of industrial structure, technological innovation, green and low-carbon levels and number of advantageous enterprises. The petrochemical industry should promote the upgrading of industrial structure with high-end, eliminate environmental pollution with clean production, promote the energy revolution with low-carbon transformation, achieve resource conservation and utilization through recycling transformation, lead high-quality development with digital transformation, and strive to promote comprehensive green transformation of the industry.

"On the one hand, green transformation is reconstructing the traditional production model characterized by low-cost factors, and promoting high-end, intelligent, and green upgrades of the industry will bring new growth points. On the other hand, the green upgrading and transformation of my country's traditional industries and the demand for green consumption will create a huge green market." The relevant person in charge of the Energy Conservation and Comprehensive Utilization Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology suggested that the petrochemical industry should not only actively promote the transformation and optimization of front-end production technologies, but also promote the implementation of green manufacturing projects at terminals to continuously increase the "green content".

The environmental performance grading of key industries in heavily polluted weather is a pollution reduction and carbon reduction work that the country attaches great importance to. According to reports, currently, the proportion of A-level enterprises with environmental performance in the petrochemical industry is about 4%, which is relatively low.

"The petrochemical industry must fully realize the importance of carrying out performance grading and level improvement, proactively connect with local regulatory authorities, and promote the transformation of environmental governance from temporary symptoms to fundamental causes through equipment renewal and transformation, so as to obtain long-term carbon reduction benefits." Relevant comrades from the Department of Atmospheric Environment of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment said that the Ministry of Ecology and Environment has launched a linked policy that allows enterprises with advanced environmental protection performance to reduce or exempt first-level inspections during the warning period of heavily polluted weather. This is a rare opportunity for the petrochemical industry to promote the green transformation of development methods. Leading companies in the industry must actively play a demonstration and leading role and drive the entire industry to improve performance levels.

Regarding the trends and needs of green development in the future, Ren Hongqiang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and dean of the School of Environment of Nanjing University, said that ecological and environmental protection is entering a highly integrated development period of "technology + standards + industry". The petrochemical industry must focus on promoting the green transformation of development methods. Develop original, disruptive low-carbon technologies, continuously improve the green development standard system, and coordinate the promotion of pollution reduction, carbon reduction, green expansion, and growth.

Fu Pengbo, associate professor at the School of Resources and Environmental Engineering at East China University of Science and Technology, believes that technologies such as "green electricity + biomass", green electrochemistry, zero-oil refining and refining integration, and resource recycling will help the petrochemical industry build a clean cycle and green metabolism. The full life cycle development model has great potential to promote the industry to achieve carbon neutrality.

Zhang Qinghai, deputy director of the Management Committee of Quanhui Petrochemical Industrial Park, and Yuan Zhongquan, assistant general manager and HSE director of Sinochem Energy Co., Ltd. attended the meeting and delivered speeches.

This meeting was hosted by China Chemical Environmental Protection Association and Sinochem Energy Co., Ltd., and hosted by the Petrochemical Special Committee of China Chemical Environmental Protection Association and Sinochem Quanzhou Petrochemical Co., Ltd.
