Liu Bing, General Manager of Xylem China's Municipal & Analytical Instruments business, said that we will continue to improve our professional services by practicing "intelligent" manufacturing in China

On April 18, the 25th IE Expo China, Asia's flagship environmental protection exhibition, co-sponsored by the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, the China Chamber of Environmental Services, Messe München Group and China Trade Munich Messe (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., opened at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. At the meeting, Liu Bing, general manager of Xylem China's municipal and analytical instrument business, was interviewed by China Environment News.

China Environment News:Could you please tell us about the company's focus areas and overall development?

Liu Bing:Xylem is a leading global provider of water technologies for water delivery, water treatment, water monitoring and testing, helping customers in the municipal, construction, industrial and water conservancy industries achieve scientific water use. In recent years, digital transformation has become a strategic priority for Xylem's development, and in the future, it will continue to focus on smart water and more energy-efficient digital products and solutions, systematically identify weak links in the water cycle, and help customers manage and use water resources more effectively, and achieve sustainable water environment and economic sustainability.

Since its founding, Xylem has embraced a sustainable development strategy that uses innovation as an engine for the company's continued growth. Under the wave of digital transformation, Xylem is changing the track with the times, applying more advanced smart products and solutions to the Chinese market. At present, we are vigorously promoting the "One Company" holistic smart solution to cover the full life cycle management of water resources, provide customers with greater synergistic value and future growth potential, and become a provider of truly differentiated value.

China Environment News:What kind of different exhibitions will your company bring to the IE Expo, what are the blockbuster products and equipment unveiled, and what new breakthroughs are there in technology?

Liu Bing:This year, the products we brought are mainly focused on the field of municipal wastewater treatment. Xylem's first new product, OptyZe Pump Monitoring Solution, is a product that provides health guidance and predictive maintenance recommendations for pumps, motors, heat exchangers and other equipment, which can be widely used in commercial buildings, manufacturing, agriculture, water and other fields. In addition, this year marks the 40th anniversary of Xylem's Flygt "Banana Blade" flow pusher, and we also brought its classic product - Flygt large submersible low-speed mixer, which is suitable for large and medium-sized sewage treatment plants, water plants, municipal rainwater and sewage pumping stations, water supply and drainage projects and various buildings across the country.

Since the first generation of banana impeller agitators in 1984, we have been continuously upgrading our products through innovative technology. Equipped with IE3 high-efficiency motors, as well as reliable H-class insulation, vacuum drip process induction motors, the product can operate at a fixed and efficient speed, bringing significant energy saving effects to the system. It has to be mentioned that the Flygt Adaptive Adjustment Agitator is also available, which is not only equipped with a more energy-efficient IE4 motor, but also equipped with an intelligent controller, which we affectionately call the "smart brain" agitator, which minimizes energy consumption.

At the exhibition site, we also brought more than 10 breakthrough products including electromagnetic water meters, ozone systems, integrated sewage treatment equipment, aeration process optimization solutions, etc., with its brands such as Sensus, Sanitaire, WTW, Wedeco, Lepold, etc.

In the field of wastewater treatment, Xylem has experienced the wastewater treatment industry from upgrading and transformation to improving quality and efficiency to intelligent operation with innovative technology, from the classic series of banana impeller mixers to new products such as the Optimyze pump monitoring solution empowered by innovative technology, and continues to upgrade product solutions according to customer needs, and creates high-quality products that help the wastewater treatment industry become green, low-carbon and intelligent by integrating cutting-edge digital technology and rich application experience.

China Environment News:In the stage of "double carbon", how to lead and achieve the new quality productivity of the industry is a hot topic, what industry contribution has your company made in this context, and how to achieve its own high-quality development next?

Liu Bing:Water utilities are an important part of social infrastructure, and digitalization is an important part of the green transformation of water systems. The proposal of new quality productivity and equipment renewal plan has released a signal that technological innovation empowers efficient equipment, which also coincides with our strategy in recent years.

Xylem has long since transformed from a traditional equipment manufacturer to an integrated technology provider. We use digital technologies to empower products to optimize the energy consumption and carbon emissions of equipment, such as the sponge airport project at Beijing Daxing International Airport, where we designed a ground source heat pump system for the terminal, which currently generates 10% of the airport's electricity consumption.

In line with China's "smart" manufacturing market strategy and continuous improvement of professional services in the Chinese market, last year, we invested in a new R&D center in Shanghai, Xylem China Water Technology Innovation Space, as one of Xylem's global innovation bases, working with our R&D teams in Nanjing and Shenzhen to better serve China and emerging markets. At the same time, the new R&D center will promote the digital development of China's water affairs by strengthening industry-university-research collaborations, such as the Xylem AquaTalk® smart drainage platform, which we launched in collaboration with the Binhai Industrial Technology Research Institute of Zhejiang University, which is a smart product designed to address the challenges of flood control and waterlogging in Chinese cities, and is already being used in some cities.

While technology enables equipment upgrades, Xylem is committed to solving water problems more holistically with technology and services. Last year, we launched 12 "One Company" series solutions, including smart water and sewage plant solutions, overall mine solutions, integrated leakage control solutions, smart drainage and flood control emergency management solutions, etc. Through this "one-stop", end-to-end water cycle solution, we not only cover the full lifecycle management of water resources, but also enable Xylem to become a truly differentiated value provider, enabling us to achieve our own high-quality development while supporting China's transformation and transformation process.

China Environment News:What is the company's future business layout and development direction?

Liu Bing:As mentioned above, Xylem will adjust and transform the track at the business level, not only focusing more on digitally empowered business upgrades, but also emphasizing the idea of "one company" overall smart solutions, focusing on green buildings, industrial parks, industrial zero emissions and water resources, comprehensive water environment management, stormwater management and other fields. In the future, we will continue to support the high-quality development of China's economy with innovative technologies, help build a modern environmental governance system, and achieve deep integration of green development and ecological environmental protection.
