The second "Hualong No. 1" in the western region of China was connected to the grid for power generation for the first time

The reporter learned from China General Nuclear Power Group that at 20:29 on April 9, 2024, Unit 4 of China General Nuclear Power Guangxi Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant was successfully connected to the grid for the first time, marking that the unit has power generation capacity and has taken another key step towards the goal of commercial operation.

During the grid connection process, the parameters of Unit 4 of Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant are normal and stable, and the unit is in good condition. A series of tests will be carried out as planned to further verify the performance of the unit under commercial operating conditions, and it is expected to achieve high-quality production in the first half of this year.

As the first nuclear power plant in China's western region and ethnic minority areas, two units of the first phase of the Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant have been put into commercial operation in 2016, and the No. 3 and No. 4 units of the second phase of the project are the "Hualong No. 1" demonstration projects, of which the first "Hualong No. 1" in the western region of China, the No. 3 unit of the Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant, has been put into operation on March 25, 2023, with the first cycle of safe and reliable operation, and the capacity factor of the second phase of the project will reach 98.2%, setting the best record for the third generation reactor in China.

It is reported that the cumulative on-grid electricity of the three operating units of Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant has exceeded 120 billion kilowatt hours, compared with coal-fired power stations of the same scale, the equivalent reduction of standard coal consumption by more than 36.24 million tons, the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by about 98.88 million tons, equivalent to planting 270,000 hectares of forests, is of great significance to the implementation of the national "double carbon" strategy, the construction of a new energy system, the optimization of Guangxi's energy structure, and the high-quality economic and social development of Guangxi.
